How to Transition Your Home Decor from Winter to Spring

Updated: Feb 20, 2019

It is a lot of fun to decorate for the seasons in your home. Even if you just switch out a few key accents, you can freshen up your home several times a year and enjoy the special vibe of each season even more. One tricky time of year, though, is the transition from winter and spring. There is a big shift in vibe and style between these two seasons, but there comes a point where you don’t feel fully in one or the other. Winter is almost over, but spring has yet to begin. That’s where mid-season décor comes in. Transitioning from winter to spring is very easy when you focus on a few key elements to bring out the best of both seasons in your home décor. Check out these ideas for winter to spring decorating:

Winter to Spring Decorating Tips

Fresh Colors on Icy Neutrals

One of the best ways to start transitioning from winter into spring is to layer cheerful (but slightly subdued) spring colors over icy neutrals. For example, some lavender pillows on white bedding, mint green napkins with white place settings or a light blue throw over a gray sofa. When you do transition fully into spring, the colorful accents can get a little more vibrant and you can incorporate more of them to remove the icy elements and make it more uplifting.

Let It Bloom

Bring some beautiful, white flowers into your décor. It doesn’t have to be a lot; a bouquet on the coffee table or a vase of lilies on the kitchen counter are subtle touches that will get you excited about spring being right around the corner without taking away from the winter wonder.

Moss & Branches

Decorative moss and branches are great in-between accents because they can easily be associated with both winter and spring depending on how they are used. They can have a more barren look, especially branches, that is suitable for the winter months, but a little greenery, flowers or color added to either one can take them into spring.

Glass & Metallics

Glass and metallic accents are perfect for the winter months, but all you need is some color to give them a spring touch. Tinted glass is a perfect mid-season accent for winter to spring décor or you can fill clear glass vases with a colorful filler, such as ornaments or glass pebbles. Metallics are incredibly versatile depending on what you pair them with. They can bring the icy glamour of winter while a vibrant accent can soften it with some spring flair, like some silver pillows paired with soft pink ones.
